Mental Health Awareness Month

May is Mental Health Awareness Month! Here’s a great opportunity for yourself, your organization, and business to support. Help spread the message: You are not alone! Now more than ever we need to stay connected to our community and support those who are challenged daily with PTSD and other mental health issues. One of the tools used to help those who are challenged or who watch their loved one’s daily struggles with PTSD is through education!

One of our local Mental Health Warriors is Million Heir-Williams who wrote a book, Military Mom on a Mission: An Advocate for Mental Health, that details her son’s full journey with PTSD. His before, during, and continuous journey. (See video)

HOW CAN YOU HELP? You individually, your organization, or your business can get this vital tool in the hands of service members, Veterans, military families, and caregivers by purchasing and donating the book (s), Military Mom on a Mission: An Advocate for Mental Health, to Veteran organizations. Million Heir-Williams has partnered with our local USO of Jacksonville (Jacksonville and Albert Ellis Airport) and the United States Marine Corps Wounded Warrior Regiment (Wounded Warrior Battalion-East aboard Camp Lejeune) and national organizations IAMVETS.ORG and International Veterans Empowerment Thrift Store (more organizations TBA). The goal is to purchase the book (s) and donate them to the organization of your choice on behalf of yourself, organization, or business. These organizations have pledged to distribute the books to service members, Veterans, military families, and caregivers.

Your donation will be officially recognized in many ways and at the following local book signing appearances by Million Heir-Williams: •Friday, May 14th at the MCCS Exchange aboard Camp Lejeune at 11 a.m. •Saturday, May 15th at the USO of Jacksonville at 1 p.m. •Rotary Club of Jacksonville and other clubs throughout North Carolina

Six weeks after being discharged, he had a complete mental breakdown. He was diagnosed with PTSD, severe psychosis, schizophrenia, and bipolar. Her son fought for his country and now as his mother she had to fight for him and be his voice! She sought help on his behalf from every institution and government agency. Years later and a long road of discovery and recovery, her son is thriving. Not cured, but he is able to function with continued support from his doctors, friends, family, and God. He serves as a Certified Peer Specialist assisting other Veterans who has been diagnosed with PTSD and other mental disorders. His other passion is as a Professional Voice Over Consultant.
